cpython-android-cli

Evidence-driven research on standalone CPython CLI runtimes for Android/Bionic, Termux, and uv.

Design questions are settled here; build recipes and releases live in python-build-standalone-android.

Highlights

  • Research record — experiments, evidence, and decisions, organized by stage and epoch
  • Upstream-derived — builds on the official Python.org Android distribution; not a CPython fork
  • Artifact family — Astral-structured full → install_only → install_only_stripped archives
  • Scope — AArch64 Android, validated through Termux; other ABIs are out of scope
  • Evidence first — narrow evidence is never expanded into a broader claim

Repository

  • components/ — product-assembly code and frozen contracts
    • upstream-thin/ — artifact-family assembly
    • standalone/ — facade, qualification, and native-data contracts
    • installer/ — design placeholder, no code
  • experiments/ — stage and epoch experiments with their evidence and verifiers
  • docs/ — architecture, decisions, contracts, and evidence
  • config/, scripts/, src/launcher/ — product locks, helper scripts, launcher source

Documentation

Development

python3 -m unittest discover -s tests
