Best source is likely https://www.audubon.org/art/birds-of-america, might find some good stuff in Commons too if there are missing species. Cutouts will likely require a lot of effort and manual labout

@ddmunhoz aweseome! Feel free to! Just remember to check licenses, and attribute all images with authours and sources, as well as the species against their E-bird names so that file resolving will work. Looking forward to it!

@ddmunhoz I've added a small guide for how I've done artwork editing thus far: https://arnegiacomo.dev/fugleramme/adding-artwork/. If you learn anything or have some tips feel free to append to it. (I have very limited experience with image editing)

Most of the image work I've done is through scripts, but those were quite rough/hacky and not really reusable (therefore not included in this repo).

Could one use temporarily images from https://github.com/adamoberley/HABirdDashboard/tree/HABirdDashboard/avian/assets while better ones are found? I'm interested in just getting some images up for now,but definitely will help with better ones (which my wife prefers!)

@oester I'm sorry for being so strict, but I will not be adding these images to be checked in to the repo, as I don't think they fit the preferred style and intent. You can of course download these yourself and add them to your own installation. I'd reccomend adding them to the "custom" folder. https://github.com/arnegiacomo/fugleramme/tree/main/assets/artwork/custom (let me know if you have any issues with this and I'll see what I can do!)

I have a full time job, so my throughput will be somewhat limited here. I'm not expecting to be able to start adding North American myself in the very short term (1-2 weeks). Submissions and PRs are of course totally open - and I encourage contributions that would benefit us all!

I'll follow @arnegiacomo on this. He already published the workflow I'll be using to get NA assets in following the standard. Sorry for the delay, I'm also a full time SRE/DEV so I'll be on call this week, but by Saturday I should have a first PR up for @arnegiacomo to evaluate.

Not perfect, but it gets me something displayed until better artwork can be generated. Some overlap, probably because I didn't get the sizing just right. All I did was grab the images from HABirdDashboard and generate a manifest.json.

Hi! I run a BirdNET-Go station in Greenville, South Carolina and would love to help with North American art, focused on the Southeast.

@ddmunhoz so we don't cut the same birds twice: which species are you doing, or planning to? I can start with the ones unlikely to reach you in Canada (Carolina chickadee, Carolina wren, brown-headed nuthatch, red-bellied woodpecker, black vulture, fish crow, summer tanager, blue grosbeak, Mississippi kite, yellow-throated and Swainson's warblers) and pick up whatever else you'd rather hand off.

My source would be the National Gallery of Art's scans of Audubon's Birds of America on Wikimedia Commons (CC0, about 4000px), plus the octavo edition for plates that set is missing.

@arnegiacomo should Audubon go into classic, or would you rather it be its own style?

Happy to keep a checklist in this thread if that helps.

@zax0rz Hi and thanks for the initiative! This is much appreciated! Audubon can definately go into classic. (Only style supported right now, and can always be moved later).

I will personally continue focusing on features, fixes and filling out european birds - feel free to collaborate in this thread in any way you like. Let me know if you have any questions or ideas!
